Olympic gold medallist Steven Burke MBE (Team Wiggins) took first place in a knife-edge finish at the Leigh Premier RC 10-mile time trial on the D10/1 near Rainford, Merseyside, on Saturday.
Burnley-born Burke slipped in front of runner-up Dan Evans (Team Elite/Paul Bethell Electrical) by a single second on 20:29 to claim his second victory in seven days, following up on first place in the Otley CC 10 earlier in April.
The two were comfortably ahead of the chasing pack, with Thomas Brazier (Team Elite/Paul Bethell Electrical) almost 1:20 behind in third place.
The battle for fourth place was also tight, Adrian Hughes (Seamons CC) bagging it with a time of 21:58 which was also enough to make him the fastest veteran finisher, whilst fifth was taken by Peter Walker (Leigh Premier RC) with a finish of 21:59.
Amy Gornall (Podium Ambition P/B Club La Santa) was the fastest woman finisher with Liz Mathison (Leigh Premier RC) the fastest woman veteran.
