Vanessa Whitfield raced to victory in the Manchester and District Ladies’ CA 10-mile time trial staged on the J2/1 course near Monks Heath in Cheshire on Saturday.

The 38-year-old, who rides for The Racing Chance Foundation, covered the course in 24.33 to secure victory by 15 seconds from Claire Harrison (Vision Racing), while Karen Popplewell secured third spot for Seamons CC, another 18 seconds adrift.

First of the veterans was Vision Racing’s Jayne Dickens in fourth spot with 25.13 and a plus on age standard of 3.26, while first place on handicap went to Karen Bailey (East Lancs Road Club) with 15.16, almost a minute better than Sarah Gregson (The Racing Chance Foundation).

Harrison and Dickens teamed up to win the team prize with a combined time for the duo of 50.01, while the pick of the Under-18 riders was Katie Helsby (The Racing Chance Foundation) with 27.53.
