Jason Bouttell (Team Velovelocity) powered to victory in the Plomesgate CC 25, run on an emergency course because of problems with temporary traffic lights on part of the scheduled B25/2r course.

His time of 55.13 gave him the win by almost two and a half minutes from Stuart Fairweather (Plomesgate CC) with 57.40, while the third step of the podium was occupied by Bouttell’s team-mate Andrew Leggett (Team Velovelovity) with 58.02.

The riders were greeted by glorious weather which was perhaps a little too warm for some, especially those who blew on the first lap. Although Suffolk is generally considered flat, there are some long drags that sap the energy, and with gentle undulations several riders had to think about their gearing to achieve optimum output.

While Leggett was the actual fastest veteran, the prize for the best veteran on standard went to evergreen Ken Stevens (South Pennine RC), who at the age of 85 years old clocked 1:17.48 for a plus of 9.07.

Verity Smith (Stowmarket and Dist CC) clocked 1:05.10 to win the women’s prize, while CC Sudbury collected the team prize with Damon Day, James Rush and John Bradbury all coming in the top ten to pip Plomesgate CC by almost six minutes.
