The reigning CTT Champion of Champions, Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) showed his class as he clocked 1:44.04 to win the Shirley Roads Club 50-mile time trial by almost six minutes.
The 31-year-old powered round the K33/50r course at Alcester in Worcestershire, taking the win by 5-55 from Mark Corbett (Worcester St John’s CC), with Tom Ward (Team Echelon-Rotor) third, another 1-18 off the pace.
But Clinton almost missed his start time, arriving at the line in the nick of time and going on to clock a personal best on a day which was mostly overcast but finally saw some sun as the last riders returned to the headquarters.
Corbett was the fastest veteran on standard with a plus of 27.00, while fastest female was Anouk Molliex (Leamington C&AC) whose time of 2:22.14 gave her the win by 9-03 from Fenella Brown (Warwickshire RC).
For Clinton, it is the latest in a string of good results which has included victory in the Redditch Road and Path CC 10-mile event the previous day, third in the RTTC Classic Series round three, and a win in the VTTA Midlands 10 in April.
