Conrad Moss (Nopinz) took victory by over two minutes as blustery conditions hindered riders in the Mid Devon CC 25, while Hannah Worth (Tavistock Whs) clearly won the women’s event.
Veteran rider Moss, aged 48, posted a winning time of 51 minutes and nine seconds to take his third open time trial victory of the season.
The S4/25 saw riders start near Buckfastleigh before heading out and back along the dual-carriageway A38 to Chudleigh with a climb to tackle on each of the two legs.
Overnight gales continued into the morning and made for tough conditions with a fast run out to the turn at Chudleigh followed by a tough return into a headwind, making the long drag to Bickington particularly hard.
Moss also won the Giant Helston 25 and Mid Devon CC 10 events last month and continued his winning form in Devon with another emphatic performance.
Mid Devon CC team-mates James Pearcy (53-37) and Donald Brooks (53-43) battled for the remaining podium positions with just six seconds separating the second and third placed riders.
Spindata had predicted a victory for Moss in 49-42 but in blustery conditions his finishing time was over a minute slower.
“It was brutal,” said Moss. “There was a 15 miles per hour headwind on the way back which included gusts of 35mph in places.
“It was probably the slowest 25 I’ve ever ridden, it was always going to be a hard day. A few people signed on and warmed up before going back to the headquarters and not riding.
“It was really fast on the way out, but you never gain a massive amount of time, but you lose an enormous amount of time on the way back.
“It was a really unpleasant day, I was glad to get it in the bag. At the moment I’m trying to find my legs at some local races.
“Hopefully when I find some form I’ll head up and ride some 10 and 25-mile events in South Wales.”
In the women’s event Worth, aged 40, posted a winning time of one hour, two minutes and six seconds – to win by over seven minutes.
Worth also won the Tavistock Wheelers sporting 25 in March and added another victory to her collection.
Marianne Carpenter (Bath CC) led the charge behind finishing second in 1-09-23 ahead of Lindsay Philp (Wadebridge Coasters) in third (1-11-47).
The only tandem pair was Martina Geraghty and John Morse (Penzance Wheelers CC) who stopped the clock in 59-00, while Gail Wong (Holsworthy Peloton) was the sole road bike competitor and finished in 1-14-50.
